Project: Waikoloa Village
Villagers go online
We built this website for the Waikoloa Village Association (WVA) with the goal of providing an online information source for the growing resident population of Waikoloa Village on the Big Island of Hawaii. Before waikoloa.org went online, a monthly print newsletter was the only means of communication between the Association and village residents. Fresh community news and announcements, an events calendar supporting repeating events, an online discussion forum, rates for Waikoloa’s golf course, and information about the WVA are featured on the site.
Keeping content fresh
The website was designed so that the WVA’s office staff could update most of the waikoloa.org’s content. Very little training was required for them to keep the news, events calendar, and lists of organizations up to date while reducing maintenance costs and keeping the website relevant and interesting to the community.
Skills used
user interface design in web-standard XHTML and CSS, PHP programming to interface with MySQL database, graphic design, forum software installation, staff training to update site
